Alex Liu
Alex
earned a Ph.D. of Sociology and a
M.S. of Statistics from Stanford
University, in addition to a M.A.
of Sociology from Peking
University and a B.S. from the
Northwestern Polytechnical
University of China. After
graduated from Stanford, Dr. Liu
worked as a methodologist for many
organizations including the Asia/Pacific Research Center
at Stanford, the United Nations,
and the IBM Research. He also taught advanced
research methods to Ph.D.
candidates in the
University of Southern California
and the University of California
at Irvine.
Mr.
Liu was a participant
of the 1989 pro-democracy movement
in Beijing. After the June 4th
event, from August of 1989 to
August of 1990, he served as the
founding president of the Independent
Federation of Chinese Students and
Scholars in USA which was an
umbrella coordinating organization
for all the Chinese
student and scholars studying in the United
States during then. In the summer of 1990, he
founded the Global Chinese Student
Union and became its president to
coordinate pro-democracy
activities world-wide till the
summer of 1991. Mr. Liu has
appeared in numerous English and
Chinese media including New
York Times, Los Angeles
Times, Washington Post
and USA Today. Due to his
activities, he has been banned by
the Chinese authority from
visiting home for the last 17
years. He is one of the 49 leading
dissidents on Chinese
government's top black list, Alex
Liu has long devoted himself to
China's democratization, US-China
peaceful cooperation and China's
development in general. After his
involvement as a well-known
student leader in China's
pro-democracy movement from 1989
to 1991, he has been active in
promoting US-China
people diplomacy, and US-China
business cooperation, besides
working for a scientific
assessment of China's progress. Recently,
Dr. Liu has learnt more and more
about the
limitation of economic development
and democracy as to improve
people's life, and
started devoting himself to Preaching
the Gospel for China.
